TBL

What i learned from TBL.....

TBL (Thinking Based Learning) is a teaching method where instruction on skillful thinking is infused into content instruction.

Skillful thinking has 3 component:
a) thinking skill
b) habits of mind
c) metacognition

2 important types of thinking skills:
a) creative thinking skills
b) critical thinking skills

TBL is useful because TBL provides step by step procedures or routines and guiding rule by which a type of thinking can be carried out with a high degree of efficiency and effectiveness.

when using TBL, some steps are suggested to follow:

Step 1: Make connection to a specific thinking skill in the context of student everyday experience

Step 2: Give students practice in one of the habits of mind

Step 3: Give students guided practice in doing the thinking skillfully as they engage with the content

Step 4: Translate skillful thinking into skillful writing.

Step 5: Prompt students to think about their thinking.
